Position Title: Machinist

Reporting Senior: Division Operations Manager

Position summary:

While keeping safety always in mind and following J&W’s quality management system (QMS) procedures, provide direct support for manual and/or CNC machine operations as it relates to production and operating activities necessary and required by demands of the customer and J&W Services.  

Machinist will abide by company policies as outlined in the employee manual and J&W Services and Equipment API Q1 Quality Manual promoting the same to your peers. 

Tasks:

  • Understand and be very familiar with the quality procedures and quality forms as identified in QF-443 OF-450 MASTER DOC – PROCEDURES, FORMS, SPECIFICATIONS 
  • Be familiar and implement the following BlaCon procedures:
    • QP-570.01 Blacon WORK ORDER PACKETS
    • QP-570.02 Blacon Shop Production
    • QP-573.04 Blacon Identification and Traceability
    • QP-577.01 Blacon Inspections
    • QP-560.01 Blacon Purchasing and Receiving
  • Prior to beginning any task, ensure you understand the job order packet; Your confidence, knowledge and understanding is extremely important to your safety, completing job tasks and customer satisfaction; training and qualification is required for processing job order packets and operating the machines
  • If any problems or questions arise, contact your lead supervisor immediately.
  • Confer with peers and coordinators to ensure customer and management requests are met in a timely manner based on Lead Shop Coordinators’ direction and job packet details
  • When working in the shop, proper use of an API Q1 work order packet (traveler, inspection sheet, MTR, machine print) will be used when performing any task associated with machining. 
  • Ensure proper documentation is included in Job Packet
  • Measure part to scale dimensions
  • Document all machining processes performed in Job Ticket
  • Request 1st article inspection 
  • Assist in training new employees 
  • Machined parts will be released to the customer only when API Q1 procedures have been fulfilled (inspection and product release).
  • In a professional manner to encourage productivity and maintain a focus on teamwork, provide guidance and instruction as necessary to promote timeliness and efficiencies to peers and machinists in support of manager and customer expectations
  • Lead by example while promoting high morale
  • Confer with supervisors to fulfill operations and activities between departments.
  • All measuring devices including personally owned will be calibrated, have calibration sticker and have a calibration certification
  • At all times, identification and traceability of machined parts and material classified as work in process will have heat number and work order number and, as applicable, quantity identifier (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.)
  • Assist peers and coordinators in maintaining accurate inventory control and traceability as defined by API Q1 procedures.  
  • Assist in cleaning the shop
  • Perform Preventive maintenance per QF-578.00 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

Core Competences need to be proficient (as applicable)

  • Use of measuring devices (caliper, mics, etc.)
  • Inspection of parts machined
  • Blueprint reading
  • Maintaining the machines
  • Understanding of basic math principles
  • Use of traveler, inspection sheet, MTR, machine print
